UNPROVOKED SHARK ATTACKS
A phrase ‘shark attacks’ might make people assume that sharks can intentionally kill and eat us –human. However the majority of shark bites are almost certainly mistakes. Now, I want to give you two unprovoked shark attacks based on The International Shark Attack File.
‘Hit and Run’ attacks is the most common which has alway been targeted to swimmers and surfers. It is always found in the surfing-zone. In most instances, these probably are cases of mistaken identity of unclear water visibility and a harsh physical environment (surfing or washing). When these difficult physical conditions were happened and also human’s activities related to the water sport –splashing, contrasting tanning, especially involving foot movement- appear, we need not surprise when sharks misinterpret human as their normal prey. When the sharks make sure whether it is their prey or not, they bite us, they realize quickly that human is not their prey, immediately release and they won’t return. Injuries of ‘hit and run’ usually confined a small wound on the leg below the knee.
‘Bump and bite’ & ‘sneak’ attacks are the last way for sharks to kill and eat their prey. Both attacks are less common -and not happened in all species of sharks-; result in greater injuries and most fatalities. These types of attack usually involve the divers and swimmers in deeper water, but sometimes near shore swallows in some areas in the world. ‘Bump and bite’ is characterized by the sharks initially circling and bumping the victim prior to the actual attacks. ‘Sneak’ attacks differ in having the strike occur without any warning. Unlike the previous type, these attacks will repeat uncommon and multiple bites. Injuries of these types are usually severe, frequently resulting in death. I believe, it caused by antagonistic behaviors rather than being cases of mistaken identity. Most shark attacks involving sea disasters, e.g. plane and ship accidents, probably involve 'bump and bite' and 'sneak' attacks.
I can conclude that there are many species of sharks in the world and also the way they attack their prey, means that each shark has a different character. And the two unprovoked shark attacks had shown us specifically about their motives and incident.
